Let us register Domain Names on your behalf. 

A domain name is the name of the web site - for instance, ours is pagination.co.uk.  If you have e-mail, you may already have a domain name, in which case you can use this for your web site.  Otherwise, you will have to buy one.

Domain name registration is a bit of a minefield these days.  It is possible to register a domain name for next to nothing, only to discover that it legally belongs to the organisation through which it was registered, and not to you.  You may then have to pay up to £100 before they will release the domain name to enable you to move your site elsewhere.

We can arrange, through our recommended firm 123-Reg, the registration of your domain name at the minimum sensible cost, ensuring that you retain all rights to it.  For domain names ending in .co.uk. or .org.uk this can be done for less than £10 for two years.  We can also register for you, at a slightly greater cost, a domain name which ends in .com or .org.  When we register a domain name on your behalf as part of a web design package, we do not add any service charge;  all you will pay us for it is what we have paid out on your behalf.

Many of the most popular domain names have already been registered, so we cannot guarantee that you will be able to have your first choice, but we will do our best to help you find the most appropriate available name.

A web host provides the computer on which your web site is installed, and which other people access through the internet in order to see your site.  It is their responsibility to ensure that their computers are on-line for as much time as possible, so that your site is almost always available.  (No host can guarantee that their computers will never go down, but some have a much better record than others.)

Statistics

Let us organise management information statistics on visitors to your site.

Many web hosts provide a certain amount of statistical information as part of the hosting package.  For sites hosted on our Gradwell Developer Account we can also analyse the raw server logs to provide very full statistics for you.  There are also independent agencies with which you can register, which can keep track of the use made of your site and provide detailed statistics in useful graphical summaries.  Most of these cost money, and the few that are free can tend not to be very reliable.  Whether you use your web hosts’s statistics or an external facility, your statistics are usually only available on-line;  if you want us to analyse them in detail and send them to you (by e-mail, in print or on CD) in a graphical format, at whatever frequency you prefer, we are happy to undertake this for a small charge.
