Our Logo
|
A number
of people have been kind enough to comment favourably on our
fancy P logo. It was by no means all our own
work, as you will see below!
|
|
Our first attempts at devising
a logo for ourselves proved unsatisfactory, until we found
this illumination in one of Howard's books on calligraphy,
Edward Johnston's Writing &
Illuminating & Lettering (1906), and loved it.
You will notice how the letters R A I S E are
included in the P, to spell Praise.
|
| We scanned it in as pure black
and white. Looks dreadful, doesn't it? This was,
however, an essential stage in the process. |
|
|
We altered the colours to our
signature claret and silver. (We rather
like the look of wine in a silver chalice!) This was
a distinct improvement, but it still looked rather flat.
Much more work was needed.
|
| We changed the
letters R A to P
A (for Pagination Associates), removed the I
S E and cloned existing patterns to fill in the
gaps. We then tidied up the lines, added a balancing fleur-de-lys
to the foot, and decided to abandon the silver. Finally
we filled in the outlines with imperial purple. This colour,
adding depth and gravitas, was an inspiration of Mollys, and
we liked it so much we used it for our name graphic as well.
